Nearby Attractions

Addo Elephant Park
Elephant National Park has expanded to conserve a wide range of biodiversity, landscapes, fauna and flora. Stretching from the semi-arid karoo area in the north around Darlington Dam, over the rugged Zuurberg Mountains, through the Sundays River Valley and south to the coast between Sundays River mouth and Bushman’s river mouth, Addo covers about 180 000 hectares (444 700 acres) and includes the Bird and St Croix Island groups. The park can exclusively claim to be the only national park in the world to conserve the “Big 7”; the Big 5 as well as the southern right whale and great white shark off the Algoa Bay coast.

4x4 Trails
The Bedrogfontein 4x4 trail between the Kabouga and Darlington areas of the park provides breath-taking views and is rich in history. This route was the scene of fierce battles between the British and Afrikaner troops during the Anglo-Boer war. Rock art paintings are found scattered throughout the area. The route travels through a variety of vegetation types, from riverine thicket, to afromontane forest, to fynbos on the peaks and into the arid nama-karoo of the Darlington area. The 45km route is graded 2-3 and can be easily travelled within six hours. The route is self-driven and can only be driven as a one-way, starting from Kabouga and ending at Darlington.

Elephant Back Safari's
This most certainly is a once in a lifetime safari adventure. Departing from our new Day Centre, we offer you the exhilarating experience of riding these magnificent animals. Revel in the natural beauty of the environs and its wildlife from your lofty seat as these gentle giants amble through the African bush. After the ride, you are invited to walk with them through the diverse valley bushveld, ravine and forest habitat. At the conclusion of the walk, enjoy rewarding the elephants with their favourite treats.

Addo Raptor and Reptile Centre
Emphatically not a zoo, the Addo Raptor and Reptile Centre is a rehabilitation and education facility providing a home and veterinary care for rescued birds of prey and reptiles. Daily live shows and guided tours allow visitors to come face to face with the venomous Cape Cobra and numerous other deadly African snakes. The focus is to create a better understanding and awareness of these misunderstood and largely misaligned creatures. Some of the animals and birds were rescued from the pet trade or are injured and not able to be returned to the wild. Others are sourced from reputable reptile breeders.
